Melissa Mittag

Founder of Collyer & Co

Melissa Mittag is a passionate business and marketing strategist who knows how to transform existing businesses into nationally recognized brands and get emerging businesses on the map. With over 25 years of experience in the luxury architectural and design sector, her in depth understanding of the shelter category combined with long-term high-level relationships allows her to create and implement strategies that will surpass your business goals. Melissa’s experience with both manufacturers and interior design firms gives her a unique perspective of both sides of the luxury interiors industry. A specialist in business development and tactical planning, she is an asset to Designers and brands looking to develop new growth opportunities. Drawing on her skills in strategic thinking and relationship building, she uses her problem-solving mindset to help you translate your business objectives into actionable goals.

Prior to opening Collyer & Company, Melissa served as Director of Brand Management for J. Banks Design Group, where she was responsible for the firm’s marketing and media relations. Before that, she was the Director of US Operations for UK-based luxury brand Fromental for nine years, relaunching the brand in the US and developing its sales and marketing channels. Her earlier career was spent with heritage wallcovering brands, de Gournay and Gracie, Inc., developing her deep understanding of sales and distribution channels, executing aggressive growth plans, as well as sales and marketing management.

Born in South Africa, raised in New York, and educated in Europe, Melissa brings an intuitive understanding of cross-cultural marketing. She is based just North of NYC, and you can find her involved in numerous design industry events throughout the United States and beyond.

From Our Clients

  • “Melissa’s ardent and dedicated guidance has helped us build a solid foundation for our relatively young company. Whether it be on pricing structure, positioning ourselves in our community, or how to tackle advertising and photography, Melissa’s advice has been equal parts business coach and PR agent.  With her clear voice and friendship, we have capitalized on local lead generation, and, now, we are confidently building a new website, brochure and brand video.  By partnering with Melissa while we were just in our second year, we had the advantage of her alongside us in major decisions, and her industry knowledge is second to none. We have seen a steady and significant increase in the volume of inquiries, and we are attracting our goal clients.”

  • “Melissa’s prompts and guidance have pushed me to discover new insights on my business, my brand and myself. Her no-nonsense approach forces me to re-think and consider challenges in a new light. The connections I’ve made through Melissa are powerful, but the support to accomplish my goals is priceless.”

    – Victoria Larson

  • “I feel deeply lucky to have connected with Melissa Mittag. My home textiles trend report, The Textile Eye, was entering its two year doldrums when I met Melissa. I knew that I was creating something special, but I was not marketing it properly. Melissa has taken on roles from business analyst to coach, publicist to strategic advisor, and I have seen real results in working with her. She has a true affinity for quality in design and can speak the language of the luxury market, which she manages to do with intelligence, honesty, and humor. Melissa’s guidance has been invaluable.”
